Our 'Active Journey' health classes provide opportunities to make friends, build strength or manage specific conditions through tailored group exercise and activity classes.

How can the classes benefit me?

We have a range of classes that contribute to the management of long term health conditions such as:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

  • Neurological conditions (including Stroke survivors and those with Multiple sclerosis (MS) and Parkinsons)

  • Other Long Term Health conditions

How much do the classes cost?

Classes normally cost just £3 per session (unless otherwise stated). This can be paid in cash to the instructor each week however most of our participants prefer to use our Pre-Paid Activity Card (not for use in Active Nation venues). This card allows you to pay only £25 for 10 sessions at a time (meaning less weekly cash needed and a saving of £5!)

How do the classes run?

All our Active Journey health classes are made up of:

  • a physical exercise programme, designed for people with long term health conditions and tailored individually for you
  • information on looking after your body and your conditions, and advice on managing your condition and your symptoms

The classes are designed for people who require physical activity and exercise to manage their condition. Your session will be led by our qualified, experienced and friendly instructors plus regular visits from trained health care professionals such as physiotherapists, nurses and occupational therapists.

You’ll be in a group of about 8-16 people. You can join for just six to eight weeks, or stay longer to continually manage your condition - perfect for once you've completed other rehabilitation programmes. We recommend that you start with two sessions of about an hour each week - however you can participate in as many or as few classes as you wish. Our classes are held in local hospitals, community halls, leisure centres and health centres.

Participating in our Active Journey health classes is a good way to learn how to exercise safely and at the right level for you.  Most people enjoy the classes and return once or twice a week. It builds confidence and it’s great fun meeting others in a similar situation.

What's the next step?

We recommend that you self-refer (or ask your health professional) to refer you into these classes before turning up. This allows us to ensure that you're going to attend the most suitable class for your condition.
