We are delighted that we've been announced as finalists in four categories for the 2018 ukactive ‘Active Uprising’ Awards.

The finalists of the physical activity sector’s most fiercely fought awards were announced earlier in May by ukactive and we are proud to have been finalised for the second year running.

Active Nation were announced as the winners of the ukactive 2017 'Healthy Partnerships' award for our disability sport and activity programme, ActiveAbility Southampton. The competition was strong and we were up against other local authorities, leisure trusts and organisations from around the country.

ActiveAbility Southampton project, has carved the path of disability sport and physical activity in the entire Solent region. Powered by Active Nation, the ActiveAbility project is led by a steering group of inclusive sports enthusiasts and disability experts. This committee meets regularly to evaluate and challenge the direction of the project and explore new ways to make activity more accessible to the local disability community. Active Nation run the rolling eight-week programme of sessions, sports and activities, which the local community can choose to take part in. The sessions change regularly according to feedback and demand from those who get involved and new ideas from the steering group, and most offer different price points, so people can choose what to spend on activity sessions.

Having continued and expanded the depth of our disability work within the region, with sessions expanding into other areas of the Solent such as Winchester and Eastleigh, the team also secured a partnership with Special Olympics GB to lead on athlete and competition development for adults and children with learning disabilities in Hampshire.

Winning an ukactive Award is no mean feat. We have to overcome some serious opposition to win awards, following months of assessment alongside hundreds of other applicants across the categories. Several stages of evaluation take place to finally select winners, including customer insight surveys, mystery calls, visits and on-site customer interviews.

We are delighted to have been announced as finalists in four categories for the 2018 ukactive awards which will be presented following a one day conference, which takes place on 21st June at Manchester Central. The day aims to combine keynotes from leaders in business, politics and media with a varied agenda that includes the return of Ignite, a series of educational leadership workshops for ambitious General Managers.

The four categories that we have been finalised within are:

  • Unsung Hero Award
  • Workplace Wellbeing Programme of the Year
  • Outstanding Leader of the Year
  • Inclusion and Disability Award

Active Nation’s aims and objectives are obviously very close to those of ukactive and we’re extremely proud to have been announced as finalists for these prestigious awards – it’s a testament to how hard our team work day in, day out.
