ParkLives Southampton joined forces with Southampton City Councils Housing Services to provide a taster of fun free activities for all within the Northam Estate, during February half term.

ParkLives Southampton joined forces with Southampton City Councils Housing Services including Junior Neighbourhood Wardens, Housing Officers, Neighbourhood Wardens, TEEM and Tenant Engagement to put on fun, free sporting activities aimed at engaging with the local community to get out and get active, during February half term.

The Northan Estate taster day of activity was held on Wednesday 20th February 2019 and is the first in a calendar of many events set to be delivered within the estate in Southampton City Centre, by ParkLives Southampton (powered by Active Nation in Southampton).

The ParkLives team were joined by representatives and local Youth workers from the Northam Community Centre, who went litter picking in the parks.

Northam Estate residents can take advantage of the hundreds of free and fun activity sessions as ParkLives Southampton continues running within the city for the fourth consecutive year. ParkLives, a national programme from Coca-Cola Great Britain delivered in partnership with Active Nation, offers free and fun activity sessions in parks and green spaces across the region.

From jogging and cricket, to Family Fun sessions and paddle board yoga, ParkLives is designed to appeal to all ages and abilities, giving people the opportunity to get out and enjoy their parks and green spaces with a range of sports, games and activities on offer.

Maxwell Bradbury-Knight, Active Nation's Partnership Manager told us"Delivering within each cluster of Southampton allows us to ensure that no matter where you live or what barriers you face, all residents can access quality sport and activity within their local community, delivered by a local organisation whom they know and trust. We are excited to be working in new areas of the city throughout 2019 which include Northam, Millbrook and Bevois Valley. Activities will be delivered via tailored and localised delivery methods, which include the ParkLives Community Grant Scheme. If you are unsure where your nearest free and fun and family friendly activity session is, visit"

ParkLives Southampton launched in 2016 and is part of a £20 million commitment by Coca-Cola Great Britain to invest in community-based projects that help people be active. The programme now runs in 10 cities across the UK including Birmingham, Dundee, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Newham (London), Swansea, Southampton and Stoke-On-Trent.

Sophie, a Community Coach for Active Nation told us: "Working on the ground, within communities, and with those who are most in need of sport, activity and friendship is more satisfying than any other coaching role I've performed. Active Nation's Active Communities team deliver what really matters to those who really benefit and do not focus on getting the already fit, fitter. Becoming a community coach or session leader for a programme such as ParkLives Southampton doesn't have to be time consuming or expensive - Active Nation have grants and training programmes which residents can take advantage of - get in touch!"

Parklives Southampton are excited to be extending their activity programme once again, to include delivery of sessions within the city centre Northam Estate. A full timetable – including a postcode-led local park finder – can be found at where residents can register to book a free activity session for themselves, as well as friends and family.

Why do Active Nation power ParkLives Southampton?

Active Nation is a registered charity with a simple cause-led mission, persuading the nation to be active. Whilst the majority of the charities operations are in local authority leisure management we have diversified over the last couple of years to add new low cost fitness clubs, trampoline parks, activity venues and our Active Communities proposition to the portfolio. Under the simple but purposeful mission, the charity delivers what really matters to communities; exciting sports, exercise and wellbeing programmes which encourage and persuade people to be active.

Our Southampton based Active Communities Team exists to empower local communities, special populations and disabled people to access live changing, award winning inclusive sports, activities and healthy living services within the Solent Region.
