ACTIVE NATION WINS UK ACTIVE FLAME AWARD We’re extremely proud to announce that we overcame tough opposition to win the Healthy Partnerships Award in the 2017 ukactive Flame Awards in June. The awards take place every summer to celebrate organisations and individuals that have demonstrated their commitment to activity-led projects. We entered our ActiveAbility Southampton project, which has carved the path of disability sport and physical activity in the entire Solent region. Powered by Active Nation, the ActiveAbility project is led by a steering group of inclusive sports enthusiasts and disability experts. This committee meets regularly to evaluate and challenge the direction of the project and explore new ways to make activity more accessible to the local disability community. Active Nation run the rolling eight-week programme of sessions, sports and activities, which the local community can choose to take part in. The sessions change regularly according to feedback and demand from those who get involved and new ideas from the steering group, and most offer different price points, so people can choose what to spend on activity sessions. Winning a ukactive Award is no mean feat. We have had to overcome some serious opposition to win this award, following months of assessment alongside hundreds of other applicants across the 15 categories. Several stages of evaluation took place to finally select winners, including customer insight surveys, mystery calls, visits and on-site customer interviews. ukactive CEO Steven Ward said that winners of awards: “… have demonstrated exceptional standards in the sector, proven over the course of months of comprehensive assessment. The quality of finalists was very high and winners should be doubly proud to take home the awards in the face of such strong competition”. ukactive is the UK’s leading not-for-profit health body for the physical activity sector and are committed to improving the health of the nation through getting more people more active, more often. Active Nation’s aims and objectives are obviously very close to those of ukactive and we’re extremely proud to have won this prestigious award – it’s a testament to how hard our team work day in, day out; and we’d also like to thank any of our customers who participated in feedback which helped us secure the award.
