The Active Nation partnership has led to dozens of Neuro patients enjoying specialist rehabilitation services within the community.

Neurofit is a tailored keep fit class for neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, stroke, cerebral palsy and brain injury. This is supported by NHS physiotherapists in order to develop the best possible exercise class. This class is open to anybody who is able to walk, stand and  take a few steps with support.

Maxwell Bradbury-Knight, Active Nation's Partnerships Manager told us:

The sessions have allowed patients to access Neuro rehab services within the community in a less clinical atmosphere. This has in turn led to a significant growth in participants well-being scores with a vast increase seen in social cohesion and attitude towards work and family life. It's fantastic to see the hard work benefiting so many members of the public with a limiting disability.

The project launched in September 2015 and ran in just one venue. Due to popularity and demand this has now successfully expanded to a second venue and we are currently looking to partner with charitable organisations to further expand the project to a third venue.

The popularity and demand has been one of the measures of success, but participant feedback questionnaires and individual participant outcome measures, including confidence to exercise and well-being have been used by both Active Nation and external evaluations organisation to gain constructive feedback that has influenced project development and change over the last 24 months.

Mary Vincent, NHS Team Leader added:

One of the main challenges for the project has been breaking down barriers to ‘working differently’ outside of the usual healthcare setting. Whilst the ethos of this project very much sits within the 5 year forward vision it remains challenging to secure funding to secure the sustainability and expansion of the project.

If this work has inspired you to work differently, or you want to see how you can work with Active Nation to create more opportunities within more communities, please get in touch here to have a conversation with a member of the Team.
