What is Special Olympics Solent?

Founded in 1968, Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organisation for children and adults with learning disabilities. Special Olympics Solent leads on competition pathways, athlete development and sport within the Solent Region.

How can you get involved?

A donation is how most people choose to support us and a contribution as generous as £10 will cover the cost of an athletes training vest. We rely solely on donations to develop our athletes and competitions for adults and children with a disability so every penny makes a massive difference.

There is no secret that our volunteers are the key to our athlete success and athlete sustainability. At Special Olympics Solent we are looking for energetic volunteers to take on roles essential to the smooth operation of our clubs and events. We are committed to recruiting a diverse and vibrant team of Volunteers who reflect the communities in which we live.

What is the next milestone for Special Olympics Solent athletes?

We have an excited group of athletes competing at the Anniversary Games 2018. This year's games are held in Stirling, Scotland from 9th - 13th August with 1,400 athletes with intellectual disabilities taking part. The games will attract over 5,000 family members and spectators to the event from across the UK and Europe. Athletes will attend from across the GB and European countries for 3 days of competition, competing in 9 different sports.

What difference will I make?

Everyone deserves a chance at a happy and purposeful life. Yet people with learning disabilities often face doubt, barriers, and low expectations. For many, Special Olympics Solent is the only place where they feel like champions. Your contribution helps more people with learning disabilities to take part in the Special Olympics year-round sports programmes.
